It’s September, and despite last week’s heatwave, autumn is here. As the blistering hot days fade we’ll all be spending more time indoors, and it’s time to cosy things up. Here’s what’s hot in interior design this autumn – and how to stay ahead of the trends…

Live Life in Colour

Autumn is a truly magical time of the year – and it’s all thanks to the spectacular reds, oranges and yellows of autumn leaves. From acid yellow to rich burgundy, there is a huge variety of autumn hues. Bring these colours into your home, and they’ll bring a real warmth to the colder days.

Take in Textures

At this time of the year, a few well-chosen soft furnishings can bring different textures into a room and help warm things up when you come in from the cold. Place a tartan throw on the bed, warm up bare floorboards with a sheepskin rug, and put a few chunky knit cushions on the sofa.

Let the Light in

It’s still September and already it’s dark by 7.30pm. As the days grow shorter, making the most of natural light becomes more important. Semi-transparent blinds are great for this, giving you privacy and preventing glare at sunrise and sunset, while still letting the light in.

Pick your Patterns

Choose a pattern with an autumnal motif to really capture the season. A new tablecloth, cushions or roller blind is an easy way to bring this in – roller blind fabric can easily be changed each season, making it easy to change up your look without a lot of fuss or expense.
