As their name suggests, Roman blinds originated from the time of the ancient Romans who were very creative people and used the blinds they created as a practical solution to an everyday problem.
With people regularly travelling on dusty roads made from cobblestones and construction work on the Roman Colosseum well under way around the time of 70AD, the skies of Rome were heavily polluted with lots of dust. It was at this point that local people began hanging wet clothes in their windows to help limit the amount of dust entering their home. In the years that followed these window dressings developed into a must have decorative item in every home and became available in a variety of designs and colours.
2000 years later and Roman blinds have become widely available, with drawstrings and cords added to allow for easier raising and lowering to suit your needs. The blinds available today still follow the same basic concept and principles of the early examples and their timeless design mean they look just as good today as they did in ancient Rome.
